Map of mooring locations in Montetey Bay

The moorings in Monterey Bay are deployed year round by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) as part of their Ocean Acquisition System for Interdisciplinary Science (OASIS). These moorings send data via radio to MBARI located at Moss Landing, CA at the center of Monterey Bay.  Click on the links in the table above to view data for the previous day, the last seven days, or the entire time series of the HOBI Labs instruments on the moorings.

M1 is located at the center of the mouth of Monterey Bay. Attached to the M1 mooring is a HydroRad-3 (HR3), HydroRad-2 (HR2), and HydroScat-2 (HS2).  The HydroRad-3 measures hyperspectral downwelling irradiance, and upwelling radiance at two locations above the surface. The HydroRad-2 is at 10 m depth with one downwelling irradiance collector and one upwelling radiance collector. The HydroScat-2 measures backscattering at 470 and 676 nm and fluorescence excited by 470nm and emitted at 676 nm, just below the surface.

M2 is located outside of Monterey Bay in the California Current and hosts a HydroScat-2 (HS2).  This HydroScat-2 is also measuring backscattering at 470 and 676 nm and fluorescence at 676 nm.
