Upwelling

Propagating upward (vs downwelling).  Originally referring to the physical transport of water, it also applies to light quantities, for example upwelling radiance (L_u).

Note that light collectors must be pointed in the direction opposite to the direction of the light they measure, so an "upwelling" light collector points down.
